Uniting Residents With
New Friends Since 1974

Since the program began in 1974, more than 10,000 residents have had a special friend through the program. Friend to Friend shares its information and know-how with others when requested and continues to serve as a model for others who have developed the program in other communities.

Our Mission:

To end loneliness in the lives of seniors, one senior at a time, "Friend to Friend".
Friend to Friend America recruits and trains volunteers in the community to visit lonely and isolated seniors.”

In Memory

As the current custodian of Friend to Friend – America I wanted to acknowledge that Friend to Friend Founder Joe Rust’s wife Marlene Rust passed away on March 4th. Marlene was a great support to her husband Joe as he took a leap of faith and started Friend to Friend back in 1974. I want express my condolences to Joe and Marlene’s Daughter and former director of Friend to Friend, Marilyn Soderquist, her family, and the entire Rust family for their continued support and prayers.

I endeavor to carry on the mission of Friend to Friend through our program and in so ensure Joe’s legacy lives on and that seniors are not lonely and isolated. Ending senior isolation, one friend at a time, friend to friend.

Thank you for everything Joe and for the amazing vision that has led to so many friendships over the years and changed so many lives. Thank you Marlene for you ever constant support of Joe in his efforts and thank you Marilyn for entrusting me to keep your father’s legacy alive.

Volunteer Opportunities

Friend to Friend America recruits and matches volunteers to visit (one-to-one) with elderly and disabled persons who live in nursing, assisted living, retirement, and adult family homes for the purpose of forming friendships. The volunteer friends make a commitment to visit at least twice a month at their convenience, for a minimum of one year. Anyone may volunteer. Visits may be short, 15-30 minutes. Fill out our volunteer application today.

Volunteer Hours

Volunteers report your volunteer hours by emailing us.

Visitor Request Form

Do you need a visitor? Do you know someone that could benefit from a visiting friend? Fill out our request form today!

Friend to Friend depends entirely on contributions for its support. The nature of the program does not lend itself to charging for ‘services’ nor the levy of dues upon those involved (volunteers, elderly & disabled residents).
